Fathers, an Eternal Calling

Father! - to God himself we cannot give a holier name.

~William Wordsworth

"It should have great meaning that of all the titles of respect and honor and admiration

that could be given him, that God himself,

he who is the highest of all, chose to be addressed simply as "Father."

A. Theodore Tuttle

"Fathers, yours is an eternal calling from which you are never released.

Callings in the Church, as important as they are,

by their very nature are only for a period of time, and then an appropriate release takes place.

But a father's calling is eternal,

and its importance transcends time. It is a calling for both time and eternity."

Ezra Taft Benson

A father is always making his baby into a little woman.

And when she is a woman he turns her back again.

Old as she was, she still missed her daddy sometimes.

One father is more than a hundred Schoolmasters.

He didn't tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.

Dad, you're someone to look up to no matter how tall I've grown.

I don't care how poor a man is, if he has family, he's rich.

The greatest gift I ever had

Came from God, I call him Dad!

"I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father's protection."

A father is a man who expects his children to be as good as he meant to be.

Daddy's Little Girl the reason Daddy does what he does.

My father used to play with my brother and me in the yard.

Mother would come out and say, "You're tearing up the grass."

"We're not raising grass," Dad would reply.  "We're raising boys."

"By the time a man realizes that maybe his father was right,
he usually has a son who thinks he's wrong."

"A truly rich man is one whose children run into his arms when his hands are empty."

It is a wise father that knows his own child.

~ William Shakespeare

To her the name of father was another name for love.

There's something like a line of gold thread running through a man's words
when he talks to his daughter,
and gradually over the years it gets to be long enough for you to pick up in your hands
and weave into a cloth that feels like love itself.

A man knows when he is growing old because he begins to look like his father.

A dad is someone who
wants to catch you before you fall
but instead picks you up,
brushes you off,
and lets you try again.

Blessed indeed is the man who hears many gentle voices call him father!

Dad, your guiding hand on my shoulder will remain with me forever.
