Crowned with life everlasting

“We must love one another. Only by doing so can our long years of toil and struggle reach full reward and we be crowned with life everlasting.”

Susa Young Gates (Relief Society Magazine, May 1921)

“Edith Hamilton observed: ‘When love meets no return the result is suffering and the greater the love the greater the suffering. There can be no greater suffering than to love purely and perfectly one who is bent upon evil and self-destruction. That was what God endured at the hands of men’ Many parents love and care but experience unreciprocated love. This is part of coming to know, on our small scale, what Jesus experienced.”

Neal A. Maxwell
“…The Lord indicates a…serious problem with harboring an unforgiving heart: ‘Wherefore, I say unto you, that ye ought to forgive one another; for he that forgiveth not his brother his trespasses standeth condemned before the Lord; for there remaineth in him the greater sin.’ Is the Lord truly saying that refusing to forgive another is a greater sin than the offense committed against us? Yes. Truman Madsen suggests one reason for this: In refusing to forgive another, we, in effect, attempt to deny the blessings of the Atonement to that person: ‘You may have reached the point of desperation in your own life when you have prayed and yearned for forgiveness of your own guilt and sin. But then you turn and say, ‘But not him! Don’t you forgive him! I’m not going to, he doesn’t deserve it.’ You will then close the channel of love and compassion and revelation from the Lord. You seek to nullify His atonement for others. It is like triple plate steel against water.’
Roderick J. Linton

“Life is never easy, and we cannot escape our own case of feeble knees from time to time.
It is thus essential that we love and support one another.”
Marvin J. Ashton

“Once we understand that we are all literally brothers and sisters in the family of God, we should also feel an obligation for one another’s welfare and show our love through deeds of kindness and concern.”

Joseph B. Wirthlin

“Many of our problems are blessings in disguise.”
O. Leslie Stone

“The Savior said, ‘a new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you’ (John 13:34 ). That great love enabled him to live a life of service, even unto the laying down of his life for us. He would have us serve one another even as he has done. An elderly widow struggled with the pain of arthritis. When she came to live with her daughter, the mother retreated into her own uncomfortable world. She had to be assisted up and down the steps as she went in and out the door. Hoping to give her mother a positive experience, the daughter suggested that her mother might read to a blind neighbor. Reluctantly, the suffering widow agreed. Moaning faintly at the effort, the widow allowed her daughter to help her down the steps. Then she hobbled up the street to make the dutiful visit. An hour passed. Two hours. At last, her family saw her returning, coming happily down the street. Amazingly, she came up the steps and into the house without assistance. ‘Well,’ she told her daughter, ‘I sure did her a lot of good.’ ”

“If there be misunderstandings, clear them up, forgive and forget, don’t let old grievances change your souls and affect them, and destroy your love and lives. Put your houses in order. Love one another and love your neighbors, your friends, the people who live near you, as the Lord gives this power to you.”

Spencer W. Kimball
