He wants our broken hearts and contrite spirits.

SOURCE: THE MORMON NERD
We often times ponder on the gifts, fit for a king, that were brought by the wise men traveling from the East. Of course we too feel the desire to bring our best to him, but there are other things that Christ, the King of Kings wants us to bring to Him—our sins, our weaknesses, our hurts, our guilt, our hard feelings. He wants our broken hearts and contrite spirits.
I love the scene in the Church movie Mr. Krueger's Christmas where Mr. Krueger, the lonely janitor living in his simple basement apartment, pictures himself coming to the manger to witness the nativity. As he starts talking to the baby Jesus he finds himself with no fancy gifts to give. Instead he gives his honest, broken heart, he brings his failings and the darkness he confesses he sometimes feels, but he also expresses his deep love and gratitude for his Redeemer. I love that scene because we can do the same.
